How can I support Alex Makes Meals?

This is one of the most common questions we’re asked.
When people think about how to support organisations like ours, the first things that come to mind are volunteering and donations (and, yes, we do welcome both of those!)
But there are lots of ways to volunteer, lots of ways to donate, and lots of other ways you can support us.
No matter your circumstances or availability, there’s a place in our community for anyone who’s passionate about food relief. Your support allows us to do what we’re best at: getting quality food to people who need it.
Here are some ways you can help us out:
Volunteer
Volunteers are the backbone of Alex Makes Meals, and it’s no exaggeration to say that we wouldn’t be able to do what we do without them.
Whether you’ve got a lot of spare time or not very much at all, there are ways you can get involved.
Become a regular volunteer
Our kitchen volunteers are early birds. Shifts run from 8.30am to 1.30pm, Monday to Thursday, and volunteers typically commit to a regular shift once a week, or once a fortnight.
We also have volunteer drivers, who usually deliver to the same charity partners every week, building on those key relationships.
Contact us here to enquire about volunteering opportunities.
Become a casual volunteer
In 2026, we’re ramping up our community events calendar and creating more opportunities for people to volunteer with us in the evenings and at weekends, on an ad-hoc basis.
You could find yourself manning a sausage sizzle, serving soup at a farmers’ market, or selling raffle tickets at a trivia night.
If you’re passionate about food relief and willing to donate your time to a good cause, but can’t commit to a full morning every week, this might be a perfect fit.
Corporate volunteering
Our corporate volunteering experiences offer teambuilding with a delicious difference.
Co-workers get out of the office and into the kitchen, working together to prep, cook and package 600+ meals for vulnerable people.
The sessions allow employees to get their hands dirty (literally) and to create something tangible with real impact.
If you work for a business that offers volunteering opportunities, reach out to corporatevolunteering@alexmakesmeals.com for a chat.
Lend us your skills
We’re incredibly lucky to have volunteers helping us out with admin and management, using their professional skill-sets to help us out with events, volunteer coordination and even PR.
If you’ve been thinking of volunteering, and you have a skill or trade you think we could benefit from, please do reach out!

Donate
Just as we can’t operate without volunteers, we also can’t survive without financial support. In large part, it’s the generosity of our community that keeps us going, and allows us to make as much positive impact as possible.
There are a few ways you can donate:
One-time donation
Head to our donate page to make a one-off contribution, with a minimum donation of $3. Be sure to select ‘one-time’ on the menu.
You can do this as frequently or infrequently as you like.
Recurring donations
If you want to contribute regularly, but would rather set-and-forget, you can set up a recurring, monthly donation. You don’t have to do anything, and you will get a payment receipt every month.
We know circumstances change. You can pause or cancel your recurring donation at any point, no questions asked.
Large or corporate donations
If you or your business are in a position to make a large donation, we would (of course) love to hear from you. Contact us at info@alexmakesmeals.com, to get the ball rolling.
Support us at events
Throughout the year, we run community events of all sizes. Here, you can support us by buying tickets, entering the raffle, or simply showing up.
Ticketed events
Our Feast to Feed gala dinner is the cornerstone event of our fundraising calendar. We’ve gathered some of Australia’s finest chefs to curate an exclusive five-course dinner, complete with wine pairings.
At the National Gallery of Victoria, this is a decadent evening of food, wine and entertainment, with all proceeds (from ticket sales, the raffle, silent auction and live auction), directly supporting our food relief efforts.
If you’re looking for a great night out for a great cause, this is it.
And if you’re a business owner interested in sponsoring the event, or donating a prize, get in touch: info@alexmakesmeals.com.

Free events
Elsewhere, we’re always adding community events into our calendar, whether it’s a Bunnings BBQ, a trivia night or a pop-up at a farmers’ market. Keep an eye on our events page, as well as our Instagram and Facebook page, to see where we’ll be, when.
Even if you can’t buy a raffle ticket or a snag, your presence will help us generate buzz, and we would love to meet you!
Advocate
One of the most powerful things you can do to help us out is to spread awareness of Alex Makes Meals, the problem we’re solving, and how we’re doing it.
If you follow us on social media, simply liking, sharing or commenting on our posts means more people will see them, and our message will travel further. (And if you don’t follow us on social media, please do!)
At work, mentioning us to your boss, events manager or HR manager could open doors to sponsorship or corporate volunteering sessions.
And, arguably, there’s nothing more powerful than mentioning our name over brunch with your friends.
This might feel like a small ask, but the amplifying effect is huge. The more people know about us, the more good we can do.
