Alex Makes Meals launched the Fresh Connection Program with support from the Aged Persons Welfare Foundation. The initiative will distribute 13,000 sit-down meals to vulnerable older adults across Melbourne over the next year, addressing loneliness and food insecurity simultaneously.

The organization emphasizes that "food is not just about sustenance—it's about connection, care, and community." Loneliness represents a significant wellbeing challenge for older Australians, and this program creates social gathering spaces alongside meal provision.

Participating Locations:

  • Railway Neighbourhood House
  • Cranbourne Food Truck
  • Thornbury Church of Christ
  • The Kindness Community

Program Schedule (starting October 2024):

  • Weekly gatherings at Railway Neighbourhood House
  • Regular Cranbourne Food Truck visits
  • Monthly dinners at Thornbury Church of Christ and The Kindness Community

The program positions meals as vehicles for meaningful human connection, enabling older adults to build friendships and combat isolation. Success depends on community support through volunteering, donations, and awareness-raising efforts.
